Go to File | Identities and setup a new Identity and then add your mail account and see if it works okay. If it does, then you can import from the other Identity. steve "bellepep" wrote in message news:cbf4858a-96eb-475c-af57-e748639bb402...Outlook Express - not getting emails. Yes, OE was closed when I deleted Inbox.dbx.Here's the error message:An unknown error has occurred. Account: '{i deleted her name here}', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800C0133Would deleting the outbox and/or sent items dbx files make a difference?Otherwise... do i need to do what Steve suggested and create a new identity? She has tons of emails... but we'll move them if necessary.THANKS for the help :)

I would try a new identity.File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169An Outlook Express basic repair kithttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/oerepair.mspx#EHH And adhere to these warnings to keep OE running smooth.Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Thanks Bruce! I set up a new identity and moved all her emails to the new one. Those 2 websites helped a lot! It only got confusing moving the address book, but I figured out how to export from the Main Identity and then import to the new identity. Problem solved. Thank you SO much!!! Have a good one. :)

UGH :(Can you believe that it's only been a week and now the New Identity is doing the same thing??? I'm getting the exact same Error Number: 0x800C0133. :( I tried the Inbox.dbx delete, even though there were only 31 emails... to no avail.I don't see anything on her email about automatic archiving, and I have not archived anything in the Inbox or Sent files directly. Her Deleted items folder is cleared every time she uses it.And, no, I have not turned off her AVG email protection... shame on me :DWhat now? Thanks SO much!!!.... Sincerely... sherri

Oh, one more thing... should I delete her original Main Identity? I've obviously checked we're in the New one... will it cause any issues? Thanks!

1: Remove AVG and reboot. Do a custom instalation and opt out of e-mail scanning when offered.2: Download and run the free version of this tool.Malwarebytes Anti-Malwarehttp://malwarebytes.org/ Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Yes. Delete the old Main Identity as long as you have everything out of it you need.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

I deleted the Main Identity.I removed and reloaded AVG, opting out of the email scanner.I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes, quick scan and it found 7 items - adware stuff like MyWebSearch and some things in registry keys, which I deleted and rebooted. I'm now running a full scan. After the Malwarebytes quick scan, I tried her email again; got the same error code; it keeps downloading the same 8 emails over and over again each time it checks for emails, but there should be like 40 something. I deleted the Inbox.dbx, and it's doing the same thing, downloading those 8 files and giving that error code. What next? Do I need to set up another New Identity now? Thanks SO much for the help, Bruce! :)

Remove the mail account and close and reopen OE and then add it back again and see if that works then. If not, then set up a new Identity. And getwww.microsoft.com/security_essentials which is much less invasive. steve <bellepep> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I deleted the Main Identity.I removed and reloaded AVG, opting out of the email scanner.I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes, quick scan and it found 7 items - adware stuff like MyWebSearch and some things in registry keys, which I deleted and rebooted. If it is stopping after downloading #8 of 40 messages, #9 is probably corrupt or too large. This may just be a coincidence that you are seeing the same error #.Log on to the server's Webmail site and delete any messages not needed, especially #9.Two other things to look at.If "Leave a copy of messages on the server" is selected, uncheck it. If it is necessary to have it checked, at least set it to delete after X days.Tools | Options | General. Make sure that you're set to check for new messages no sooner than 10 minutes. Thank you, Steve, but luckily I didn't have to resort to that. :)Bruce, by looking at the emails and where it stopped downloading in her webmail... i realized it was messages i'd set up a rule to move to a folder... which was too large and corrupt. Deleted the folder, set up a new rule, problem resolved!!!Thanks again SO MUCH, Bruce!!!
